"Built without permission, by skateboarders and later sanctioned by the city, Burnside is the preeminent example of action.... Like a magnifying glass in the sun, Burnside can witness a concentration of skill level unmatched anywhere. You can see crazy, crazy things there. Go, watch, learn, be humbled, excited and inspired. It is amazing."

Rose Festival Blowout Weekend

Tuesday, June 15
For those of you who would love to ride Burnside but are a bit to timid to hop into the usual high-speed chaos, you missed your chance last weekend. On Saturday the annual Rose Festival Parade was marching right over our heads as we skated. There weren't too many people kicking around so it was a great chance to try and get some new lines figured out, without the threat of a high-speed collision. Unfortunately, there were quite a few random little flat land groms roaming around that broke up the flow a bit. I kind of like it when there are moving obstacles roaming the flats though, it makes you stay sharp and forces you to take different lines then you were planning.

The park was supposed to get a spring time paint job on Saturday. The paint, rollers, and skaters to help were all on hand to give the park a new battleship grey finish, but due to unknown circumstances, nothing happened. I had to leave early so I was expecting to roll up the next day to a shiny new paint job. What happened? I think the blue ribbon happened, but that's fully just a wild guess on my part. The supplies are on hand so I expect that the park will get painted this week sometime. I also heard that once the slate is clean, a new graffiti piece will go up on the wall. We'll see.

Sunday was even more quiet at the park then the day before. When I showed up there were all of 3 people skating and it never picked up the whole time I was there. It was a decent session and another great time to try and learn new lines. I had a great time until I tried a really hard trick. It's called a kickturn, and not just any kickturn mind you, it was a frontside kickturn. Well, this nearly impossible trick kicked me right off my board and straight to my elbow, now it's called a swellbow. I love Burnside. It never let's you leave without taking some sort of lasting memory with you.
